Asin Lyrics

Asin is a Pinoy folk rock band from the Philippines, formed in the late 1970s as a trio. They were originally known as the Salt of the Earth, a reference to the biblical metaphor "salt of the earth" representing humble and sincere masses. In 1978, they signed their first recording contract and localized their name to Asin ng Lupa. The group released their debut LP, Asin, in 1978, which introduced an alternative form of music that resonated with Filipinos. In 1979, they released another album, Himig ng Pag-ibig, and a third album, Himig ng Lahi. In 1983, the group was reunited by AIESEC, an international students' business organization, and released an experimental album, Ang mga Awitin ng Bayan kong Pilipinas, in 1984. In 1985, they released another compilation, ASIN...Sa Atubiling Panahon, which was influenced by the EDSA Revolution and the EDSA Revolution.

Asin was the first group to incorporate Filipino indigenous instruments into pop/rock music, studying tribal music and respecting its origins. They educated people about respecting music's origins and represented it with tribal sources. Their songs, often focusing on loneliness and longing, reflected the tumultuous period in the Philippines under Marcos.
