Florante de Leon, a Filipino singer-songwriter, was a pioneer in Pinoy folk rock during the 1970s DZRJ-AM radio boom in Manila. His popular singles include "Handog" and other songs, forming part of the Manila sound. Florante influenced other singer-songwriters, particularly during the emergence of OPM. Despite being a folk singer, Florante also became part of the 1970s Manila sound, with his hard rock revival of "Handog" included in the Hopia Mani Popcorn revival album.
