He is known for combining Filipino ethnic instruments with modern pop music. Ayala's music has been released on fourteen albums and includes traditional instruments like the Hegalong and Kubing. His band, Bagong Lumad, translates to "New Native," and he served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the National Committee on Music. Ayala participated in the Philippine Popular Music Festival in 2013 and was featured in the BBC Travel episode featuring the Philippines in 2014.
