Who is Levi Celerio?
Levi Celerio, a Filipino composer and songwriter, created more than 4,000 songs. The fact that he could play the leaf like a musical instrument brought him recognition throughout the world. He was referred to as the "only leaf player in the world" by the Guinness Book of Records.
Celerio was not just a musician but also a poet and an actor who starred in a number of 1950s and 1960s Philippine motion pictures.
He composed a great deal of songs for Philippine cinema, earning him the Film Academy of the Philippines' Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 1997, he received the title of National Artist of the Philippines for Music. On April 2, 2002, he passed away.
